is a colorless and odorless liquid with a wide range of viscosity, whereby a silicone oil with a specific level of viscosity can be chosen depending on the application. With excellent heat resistance, cold resistance, water resistance and chemical resistance, silicone oil features low surface tension, excellent electric insulation, physiological inactivity and less change in viscosity to temperature.
Silicone oil is widely used in machinery, electronics, chemical, fiber, paper, construction, civil engineering and personal care industries. In particular, it is widely used as lubricating oil, electric insulation oil, SHTF, polish, defoamer, fabric softener, water repellant and additive for personal care products. Modified silicone oil applies various organic substances, such as polyester, alkyl, acrylic and epoxy. It features enhanced emulsification, water resistance, compatibility with other organic ingredients and chemical reaction compared to the general silicone oil. It is used in additives for personal care products, resin modifier, releasing agent and additives for coatings.
General Industrial Applications
Lubricant oil, hydraulic fluid
With minimal viscosity changes against temperature changes, along with thermal and oxidation stability, silicone oil for general industrial applications is used as a lubricant for vehicles, measuring equipment, optical devices, precision equipment and high temperature hydraulic equipment.
Electric Insulation Oil
With excellent electric insulation, heat resistance and cold resistance, silicone oil can be used to insulate electronic parts for vehicle transformers, condensers and transistors.
SHTF (Synthetic Heat Transfer Fluid)
With excellent heat resistance, oxidation resistance and cold resistance, silicone oil is used as a SHTF (Synthetic Heat Transfer Fluid) at both high and low temperatures. In general, dimethyl silicone oil is used at low temperatures and methylphenyl silicone oil is used at high temperatures.
Due to low surface tension, it can easily spread and be used over a wide temperature range. It maintains low levels of chemical affinity with organic polymers, is chemically stable and has excellent repeatability of releasing effects. It prevents adherence or cohesion to metallic mold during processing of various forming materials, such as rubber, plastic and metals, and can be used as a releasing agent to improve the releasing effect and the surface appearance of fabricated products.
The silicone compounds of water repellents—which are classified into solvent type and aqueous emulsion type—penetrate into the micro internal gaps of the surface of buildings such as concrete, mortar and walls to form a water-resistant layer for protection against freezing and bursting, aging and waterproofing/water repellence.
Deformer covers up air bubbles that are generated from manufacturing processes or the surface of domestic sewage and industrial waste. KCC’s defoamer effectively removes all of these air bubbles that decrease productivity and process efficiency, create hygiene problems, undermine product value and interrupt the self-purification function.
It is mixed into organic substances such as plastic to increase the properties such as impact resistance, abrasion resistance and flexibility resistance.
It is added during the production of polyurethane foam to stabilize foam and sustain homogeneity.
Additives for Coatings
A small amount is added to the coating to stabilize dispersing of pigments, control viscosity, prevent surface defects and enhance gloss, color and leveling performance.
